We do not perform any type of mold repairs(remediation), which eliminates any conflict of interest. We use state-of-the-art moisture detection equipment that can “see” an inch into virtually any building material, giving us a complete picture of any potential moisture problem. We use a 3rd party AIHA-accredited microbiology laboratory for the analysis of all samples. According to PhD microbiologists, this is the best method of optaining the highest accuracy compared to other companies that offer "on the spot" analysis (by less qualified individuals). Indoor Air Quality Testing iStock_000016410033SmallThe best method to determine your health risk from exposure to radon gas is to test the air you breathe. Raleigh Radon conducts radon tests using 48-hour continuous radon monitors, which take one measurement every hour for 48 hours to determine an average radon level in indoor air. Upon completion of the two-day test, the results are known immediately. Among non-smokers, the risk of developing radon-induced lung cancer is an equal function of the amount of time exposed to radon and the level of radon present. For example, the risk of developing lung cancer is roughly the same for a non-smoker who lived in a house with a radon level of 2 pCi/L for 20 years and one who lived with a radon level of 8 pCi/L for 5 years. (For current smokers and former smokers, lung cancer risk from radon is a function of the amount of time exposed to radon, the level of radon present, and smoking history.) Our digital monitors calculate the results automatically, so there is no human error involved in analysis. This automation eliminates any bias in the testing process, which is particularly important in a real estate transaction.
Radon Mitigation Copyright 2016 First Choice R & R | Site Design by: Dream Web Designs radon_aarst_logo.png radon_angieslist_logo.png radon_nrpp_logo.png radon_leaders_logo.png What is Radon? Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. It results from the decay of uranium that is found in nearly all soils. Outdoors, radon is diluted to low concentrations and poses no health problems. However, once inside your home or office, radon can accumulate to unhealthy levels. How Does Radon Get In My Home? Radon can be a problem in homes of all types; old homes, new homes, drafty homes or insulated homes. Radon does not care whether or not you have a basement. Air pressure differences between the house and soil create a slight vacuum, drawing radon gas from the soil into your home or office. Radon gas can enter your home through: 1. Floors or walls 2. Floor drains 3. Sump 4. Construction joints 5. Cracks & pores in hollow or solid concrete walls. Radon levels in your home are dependent on several factors, such as design, type of construction, effects of air handling equipment, ventilation, water supply, and the concentration of radon in underlying soil, Radon levels are generally highest in basements or the lowest living level of your home. Radon Mitigation Radon Mitigation systems work by lowering the air pressure slightly under the house. Because no level of radon is considered absolutely safe, radon levels in your home should be reduced to the lowest possible level.
