North Caldwell is a borough in northwestern Essex County, New Jersey, United States Of America, along with a suburb of New York City. As of the year the 2010 United States Of America Census, the borough’s human population was 6,183, reflecting a reduced 1,192 (-16.2%) from the 7,375 counted in the 2000 Census, that have consequently improved by 669 (+10.0%) from the 6,706 counted in the 1990 Census.
North Caldwell was integrated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 31, 1898, from parts of Caldwell Township (now called Fairfield Township). In 1982, the borough was certainly one of four Essex County municipalities to pass a referendum to turn out to be a township, becoming a member of 11 municipalities that needed already made the change. Eventually, more than a dozen Essex State municipalities reclassified by themselves as townships to be able exploit federal revenue sharing policies that allotted townships a greater share of government aid to municipalities on a per capita basis. Effective January 1, 1992, it once again become a borough. The borough obtained its term from Presbyterian minister James Caldwell.
