Prescott is a city in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. Based on the 2010 Census, the people of the city is 39,843. The city is the county seat of Yavapai County. In 1864 Prescott was chosen as the capital of the Arizona Region, changing the temporary capital at Fort Whipple. The Territorial Capital was relocated to Tucson in 1867. Prescott once again grew to become the Territorial Capital in 1877, until Phoenix became the capital in 1889.
The villages of Prescott Valley, 7 miles (11 km) east ; Chino Valley, 16 miles (26 km) north ; Dewey-Humboldt, 13 miles (21 km) east, and Prescott, with each other comprise what exactly is locally called the “Quad-City” area. It also occasionally refers to main Yavapai County in general, which might include the towns of : Mayer, Paulden, Wilhoit, and Williamson Valley. Along with these types of smaller groups the area needed a population of 103,260 as of 2007. Prescott is the middle of the Prescott Metropolitan Area, defined by the U.S. Census Bureau since all of Yavapai County.
